Hundreds of children gather near a shade tree to listen to one teacher teach.  In Malawi, Africa, they call it school.  Some teachers have chalkboards, others only their voices.  Most kids don’t have the school supplies they need or decent clothes to wear to school, or shelter to sleep in.  Only 6 out of 10 of them will complete more than the 5th grade.  Only 4% will attend after age 13.  If their lucky, school will provide the only hot meal they’ll have all day.  1.2 million of them have been orphaned by AIDS and Malaria.  Every 15 seconds another child in Africa becomes an orphan.  With your help, these kids will hear the Gospel, have shoes on their feet, homes to sleep in, have the school supplies they need and hope for a better future.  Their teachers will have the proper tools.  Their communities will be more complete; and we’ll all make a difference in the lives of these children half a world away.  Education has proven crucial in the battle against poverty.  It will make the difference between a hand out and a way out.  Help us make a difference in the lives of the people of Malawi.

  • Feeding Hope

Missions 4 Jesus is Feeding Hope in the hearts of the people of Malawi, the poorest country in Africa.  Despite being among the ten poorest countries in the world, it’s called ” the warm heart of Africa” because of the good nature of its people.  AIDS and Malaria ravage the 12 million who live there.  Half of the population is illiterate and life expectancy , at its best is only 46 years.  More than 13% of all children born will not live to see their fifth birthday due to AIDS, malnutrition, and Malaria combined.  Seventy percent of all hospital deaths (among those age 15-49) are AIDS related leaving as many orphaned children as the total population of a US metropolitian city – about 1.2 million orphans.  Only 6 out of 10 children will complete the equivalent of the 5th grade; and less than 4% will continue their education beyond age 13; yet education level has proven crucial in reduction of AIDS rates with 16% less infected among the more educated sectors.  Agriculture is the mainstay of their economy, but lack of access to seed, clean water and the skills to effectively operate farms prevents them from providing enough food or income to sustain themselves, thus the cyle of poverty continues.  One hundred percent of Malawians are considered “very poor” and a staggering 60% live below the poverty level.

  • The Vision

“Give a man a fish; he eats for a day.   Teach a man to fish; he eats for life.”  That’s the concept that started it all.  These villages don’t just need to be fed, they need a way to feed themselves tomorrow and the next day after that.  They don’t just need clothing for today; they need a plan for the future.  It does take a village to raise a child.  A boy becomes a man.  A man becomes a leader.  We want them to have the means, skills, and knowledge to grow and flourish.  Missions 4 Jesus is making that happen with Operation SAVE–Feeding Hope.  Our model takes a village struggling to find food for today, begging for work and just praying to survive another day and turns it into a community with homes where orphaned children have a mother, students have a school, and villagers have skills, jobs, medical care and crops that both feed them and give them their spot in the marketplace.  This generation feeds and prepares the next and so on.  The poverty cycle stops here.  Their world is changed.  We can make a difference.  you can be part of the solution part of the vision that changes a village forever.

  • The Proof

An estimated 12% of family planning and AIDS education comes from mission groups similar to Missions 4 Jesus.  The effects of helping provide a better future are immeasurable.  While each group may have its own special focus, one this is clear, Missions are making a difference.  With your help, we can make even more.  Since its inception in 2004 Missions 4 Jesus has serves and continues to serve more than 2500 families ( an average of 8 people per family) in 24 villages throughout southern Malawi, which is statistically the poorest of the poor regions.  Between Missions 4 Jesus’ Orphan Daycare and Katola School nearly 4,000 hot meals are provided to Moms and children/orphans each week.  In its first three years of operation, Missions 4 Jesus had provided almost half a million pounds of maize ( a food staple), 135,000 lbs of fertilizer, 4,400 lbs of seed for crops, 7,100 care packages and distributed more than 3,000 Bibles and Hymnals to villagers in that region, Missions 4 Jesus has also established maize mills for manufacturing, warehouses, cafeterias, and orphan homes.  With the help of supporters like you, we also provide resources for six teachers, including one Bible teacher/Pastor.  The Missions 4 Jesus, Malawi board and more than 30 volunteers manage operations year round in Malawi.  In addition to distribution of supplies and food, each trip the US mission team makes provides medical and dental clinics, necessary medicines (or resources to get villagers to treatment facilities) and Crusades to spread the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  By strenghening the family and preparing these folks to sustain themselves, we can continue to increase our impact in Malawi each year.
